Aging time and type of wood: Mixture of fine Dominican rums of high aging, matured in American oak barrels with previous use in bourbon.
Peculiarities of the elaboration: Barceló & Cía, was created in 1930 by two Spanish brothers, Julián and Andrés Barceló, natives of Mallorca. The same year, the company and the entire city were destroyed by the cyclone San Zenón. Faced with this total devastation, Andrés decided to run his luck on the nearby island of Puerto Rico. Julián Barceló stayed in Santo Domingo, determined to raise his small business again. For that time, Julián visited the towns and the rural areas, promoting and selling his product with the original label that, directly and simply, wore the slogan "the rum that I drink". The company developed to the compass of the city of Santo Domingo, growing until it was established in its permanent location in the eastern part of the city, on the banks of the Ozama River, observing the port and the colonial city. Through the decades, the Barceló name also managed to conquer the national market, manifesting a great growth and expansion as a liquor industry. Julián Barceló retired in 1974. Today, Ron Barceló & Cía belongs to the Marqués de Vargas, Pelayo de la Mata.
Ron Barceló Gran Platinum was an innovation in the world of the aged: a Gran Añejo rum with a transparent body that is characterized by its softness and freshness. It is the result of the mixture of the finest rums patiently aged in American oak barrels and subjected to a delicate and novel filtering process. With this extra filtering the Gran Añejo rum transforms into Ron Barceló Gran Platinum adopting a transparent body and a mild flavor.
Tasting note: Colorless, crystalline, with steely sparkles. On the nose, we find citrus and fresh aromas, spicy notes (pepper, vanilla) and nuts (walnut, alloza) and memories of burnt sugar. The entrance in the mouth is pleasant, soft, round and enveloping in the step and final with citrus and balsamic (eucalyptus) memories that give it a lot of freshness.
Uses in cocktails: Noche sevillana.
Ingredients: 7 cl. by Ron Barceló Gran Platinum, 16 cl. of lime-lemon soda, 1 cl. of orange blossom water, orange peel.
- Put in a ball glass filled with ice several ice stones.
- Add the rum and orange blossom water and mix.
- Finish with soda and garnish with orange peel.
