We have gone on a getaway to do wine tourism to an exceptional place in the province of Granada, a few kilometres from the Sierra Nevada National Park and the Costa Tropical.

We visited the Hacienda Señorío de Nevada Wineries with the idea of ​​getting to know the facilities, the vineyards and the winery in order to tell you the full experience of the wine tasting.

Señorío de Nevada is a hacienda linked to the wine culture, where you can stroll through the privileged vineyards fused with a dreamy landscape at the foots of the steep mountains of Sierra Nevada and surrounded by the beauty touches of Granada's Alpujarra and the Lecrín Valley.

Hacienda Señorío de Nevada, a strategic and privileged location

The vineyard grounds of Hacienda Señorío de Nevada are located in a unique and privileged place surrounded by the greenery provided by the Lecrín Valley and the background image of the vertiginous mountain ridges of the Sierra Nevada. An idyllic place to explore on foot and enjoy the well-balanced fusion between nature and human work.

It is a strategic place located about 700 meters high over the sea, aligning limestone and clay soils. You will see over the near mountains the Niguelas fault, a huge fracture of the ground caused by the sliding of the tectonic plates that originated a great fault. It is clearly visible by the intense clarity of the marbles on the ground due to the erosion caused by the gap of grooves and fissures in the ground. It is declared a natural monument of Andalusia.

This favors the appearance of an underground river just below the apparently arid soils of the farm, which filter the waters coming from Sierra Nevada, considerably enriching the farm grounds with minerals.

In this location there is a confluence of cold air currents from Sierra Nevada and the warm sea breezes from the Mediterranean. This microclimate causes the grape's ripening period to lengthen, improving its qualities and allowing the production of excellent quality wines.

Wine tourism at La Hacienda Señorío de Nevada

Our visit took place at the end of September, when the harvest was in all its splendor, the fruit was in full maturity ready to be collected and the leaves of the vineyards were beginning to turn brown and ocher. Quite a visual spectacle that we were lucky to enjoy on a perfect day, under a clear sky and the vividness that the sun's rays brought to the environment.

We had the privilege of being able to wander freely among the vines to learn about the different varieties of grapes that are harvested on the estate and take some pictures of the vineyards in full harvest, while we waited for the start of the guided tour.

Visit to the wineyards and the hotel of Hacienda Señorío de Nevada

On the visiting tour we were guided by Alejandro, a true expert of the region and the wine culture of Hacienda Señorío de Nevada. He knew how to transmit to us, from a friendly and pleasant tone, his knowledge about the cultivation, the harvest, the different grapes harvested on the farm, the morphology of the terrain, the landscape orography of the environment and the climate, the production process and the wine aging.

The Hacienda Señorío de Nevada has a terroir of 21 hectares where the grape varieties are grown: Syrah, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Viogner, Cabernet Sauvignon, Garnacha and Tempranillo.

In addition, we were able to see the hotel facilities that perfectly combines the most traditional and rustic wine culture style with the most modern decoration and architecture.

From the rooms and the roof of the restaurant there are magnificent views of the natural landscapes of Sierra Nevada and the vineyards of the estate, an ideal place to enjoy the tranquillity and peace.

Visit to the Hacienda Señorío de Nevada winery

An excellent team of people works every day to make possible the elaboration of the different high-quality wines from Hacienda Señorío de Nevada, under the supervision of the winemaker Chema Concustell.

Accompanied by our guide Alejandro, we initially visited the huge steel wine tanks, where the wines are subjected to a first fermentation process.

Later, we immerse ourselves in the basement of the hotel, where we have the opportunity to see the aging room, where the wine is aged in American and French oak barrels. They have a modern temperature and humidity control system that ensures the achievement of a wine with very high-quality standards.

In addition, there is a bottle container room where the wine is allowed to grow for a period of time before uncorking.

The Wine Tasting of Hacienda Señorío de Nevada

After having traced the route from the vine to the bottle, it was time to uncork and enjoy the flavours of the land in a guided wine tasting.

We did a tasting of 3 wines from the winery, accompanied by a plate of appetizers from the region. During the wine tasting commented by the guide, we learned how to appreciate the different notes through the senses of sight, smell and palate.

We had the opportunity to taste Señorío de Nevada rosé wine, Señorío de Nevada white wine and Señorío de Nevada Plata red wine.

The wines made by the winery have international prestige and have won awards in the AWC Vienna, Wine challenge, Bacchus and many other competitions.
